The idea for the Birkin Bag was born in 1984 when Jane Birkin was stowing her basket bag during a flight and its contents fell out. She happened to be sitting next to Jean-Louis Dumas, the head of Hermès at the time. After a short discussion, she drew her dream bag: bigger than the Kelly, smaller than a suitcase. Dumas realized the sketch, and thus the iconic Birkin Bag was born, which Jane later received in exchange for her name.

This version of the Hermès Birkin 40 offers enough space for everyday use and travel, while the soft, durable leather gives the bag a pleasant feel. The understated Étain color gives it a versatile sophistication that suits any look.
